Collection: Essential Post-Rock Albums

Often instrumental, usually experimental, Post-Rock is a subgenre that emphasises texture and space more than traditional pop song structures. It can be dark and orchestral, quiet and delicate, jazz and kraut rock inspired, or just push the boundaries of indie rock into new realms. In the early 2000's much of it was distinguished by extra long song lengths and slow instrumental build ups from near silence to full bombastic wall of noise. While it is most often associated with bands like Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You Black Emperor, and Sigur Ros, Post-Rock is a term that has applied to everything from Stereolab and Tortoise to Swans and Animal Collective. Here are just a few of our favorites available on LP.
