Collection: Essential Metal Albums

Heavy Metal has a long history from the early sounds of Black Sabbath through the New Wave of British Heavy Metal which produced Judas Priest and Motorhead, to the start of San Francisco Bay Area Thrash which gave rise to Metallica, Exodus, Testament, and Death Angel. Many subgenres and cross pollinations happened beginning in the 1980 including Death, Black, Doom, Power, Glam, and Industrial Metal. The 1990s and 2000s saw further hybrids pop up including Nu-Metal, Progressive, Stoner, Sludge, Grindcore, Metalcore, and Extreme Metal. This small collection represents the essential Metal albums in this wide range which the dedicated Metal fan should have in their collection. - Scott Boutin
